October 9 - November 9, 2014
ABSOLUTELY! {perhaps}

by Luigi Pirandello
a new adaptation by Martin Sherman
directed by Allison Arkell Stockman

A wildfire of gossip and speculation breaks out when Signor Ponza and his wife move to town and shockingly take up residence in a separate house from his mother-in-law. With no regard for privacy, the community of this Italian village decides they absolutely must get the inside scoop. What these snoops discover sends them spinning - tales of love-induced trips to the madhouse, secret letters delivered by a bucket on a rope and pulley, and a case of mistaken identity that has been maintained for years.

Constellation Theatre Company lets you in on a secret with Pirandello’s Brilliant Comedy

ABSOLUTELY! {perhaps}
by Luigi Pirandello
adapted by Martin Sherman
directed by Allison Arkell Stockman

(Washington, DC) - Constellation Theatre Company will present ABSOLUTELY! {perhaps} by Luigi Pirandello in a new adaptation by Martin Sherman directed by Allison Arkell Stockman from October 9 - November 9 at SOURCE 1835 14th St NW, Washington, DC. Tickets are $20 - $45 and can be purchased online at www.ConstellationTheatre.org or over the phone by calling 202-204-7741.

In ABSOLUTELY! {perhaps}, a wildfire of gossip and speculation breaks out when Signor Ponza and his wife move to town and shockingly take up residence in a separate house from his mother-in-law.

For this production, Nobel Prize winner Luigi Pirandello's brilliant comedy sparkles in a Mad Men era Italian village where scandal is on the tip of everyone’s tongue and asks audiences, “What if your private life was the talk of the town?”

Pirandello wrote the original version Cosi e (se vi pare), or Right You Are, If You Think So, nearly a century ago in 1917. Constellation is staging a bold adaptation by Martin Sherman that premiered in London’s West End in 2003 under the new title, ABSOLUTELY! {perhaps}. The London production, directed by Franco Zeffirelli, was nominated for four Laurence Olivier Awards. Sherman is best known for his Pulitzer Prize winning play Bent.

Constellation re-unites powerhouse design team A.J. Guban (Sets and Lights), Kendra Rai (Costumes) and Palmer Hefferan (Sound) who collaborated on last fall’s 36 Views. Together with director Allison Arkell Stockman, the creative team decided to place this production in the early 1960’s. The mod fashions in both clothing and scenery mixes bright colors, bold patterns and stylish silhouettes, establishing a fun and innocent environment in which the gossips can gather.

The acting ensemble is led by Constellation-favorite Ashley Ivey as Lamberto Laudisi. Michael Glenn, who last appeared with Constellation as Scapin, is paired with Kimberly Schraf as the pivotal characters Signor Ponza and his mother-in-law Signora Frola. Schraf has graced stages all over town including Arena Stage, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, Studio Theatre, Signature Theatre, and the Folger Theatre. The large cast includes Catherine Deadman and Julie Garner as well as many performers making their Constellation debut: Lizzi Albert, Matt Dewberry, Tyler Herman, Connor J. Hogan, Julia Klavens, Toby Mulford, Sarah Pretz, and Teresa Spencer.

Constellation Theatre Company’s mission is to spark the curiosity and imagination of the people of Greater Washington, DC by bringing stories to life from all over the world. Visual spectacle, music and movement unite with an exuberant acting ensemble to create an exhilarating entertainment experience.
