The Wild Party
Book, Music and Lyrics by Andrew Lippa
Based on the Poem by Joseph Moncure March
directed by Allison Arkell Stockman

The Wild Party closed on October 29, 2017.

Lovers Queenie and Burrs fan the flames of their romance by throwing the ultimate bash in their Manhattan apartment. The parade of colorful guests includes a provocative stranger named Black who catches Queenie's eye and sparks Burrs' jealousy. Riding waves of booze and pulsating music, everyone abandons their inhibitions. This steamy prohibition tale of passion and insatiable appetites features a sensational score including jazz, vaudeville and gospel numbers. Winner of the 2000 Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Outstanding Musical.

Partially Developed and Received Readings at The O'Neil Theater Center during the 1997 National Music Theatre Conference Originally Produced in New York City by the Manhattan Theatre Club

The Wild Party ran from September 21 - October 29, 2017.

"This well-thought-out production is spirited and flavorful enough to reward an RSVP."
- The Washington Post

"Constellation Theatre Company has turned itself into a musical powerhouse over the last few years with strong productions of Avenue Q and Urinetown. The cozy dimensions of the Source Theatre place the audience close enough to feel the performers’ sweat."
- The Washington City Paper

"A genuinely gorgeous score!”
- DC Theatre Scene

"The raw talent on display can’t be denied. Queenie’s demure detachment, Burrs’ sadism, Black’s imperiled innocence and Kate’s desperate desire to be the life of the party at all costs all shine through as clear as the glitz on their costumes."
- DCist

"This musical is good dirty fun!"
- BroadwayWorld

"Constellation Theatre Company’s investment in Lippa’s carousing-themed musical certainly scores. With capital performances by two female leads, valuable humor contributed by supporting players and creditable musicality and dancing, the production reaps a more-than-respectable payoff."
- The Washington Post

"The music and dancing delight!"
- Metro Weekly

"It’s shiny, and it’s a spectacle. Erik Teague costumes the show’s women in a rainbow of flapper garb, and choreographer Ilona Kessell has crafted some amazing moves to match Lippa’s broad score, which runs from jazz to gospel."
- MD Theatre Guide

"High-energy, jaw-dropping performances that blow the roof right off the joint."
- DC Metro Theater Arts

"These close proximity musicals that Constellation has moved into in the last few years with Avenue Q and Urinetown - I really like them - it’s really fun to see a musical just right up in your face."
- WETA Around Town

"A trio of actresses shine every time they open their mouths!"
- Brightest Young Things
